Canon error code 1240

Before you try the solution

1. 1. Copy the complete message exactly as shown, including any letters, spaces, or punctuation around 1240.
2. 2. Find the printer's exact model number. The same-looking code can mean something different on another model family.
3. 3. Let the current print, scan, or update operation stop before touching controls, paper paths, or covers.

If the error is still there

1. 1Return to the screen or job that produced the message and check whether the code has cleared.
2. 2If 1240 returns, do not repeat a risky procedure. Record when it appears and check the documentation for the exact model.
3. 3If the documented action does not clear 1240, contact Canon support or a qualified printer technician with the model number and complete message.

Other Canon error codes

• 1200The scanning unit or cover is open. Closing it clears the message.
• 1000There is no paper in the rear tray, or the paper is not loaded correctly. Canon's remedy is to reload the paper, align the guides, set the paper information and press OK.
• 1300Paper is jammed while feeding from the rear tray. Canon's remedy is to pull the paper out slowly with both hands. If the paper tears, the procedure escalates to opening the printer to retrieve the fragments.
• 1313Paper jammed as the printer pulled in already-printed paper, on the duplex re-feed path. Canon documents three places to check: the output slot, inside the printer, and the rear side.
• 1372Print head replacement can't proceed because the maintenance cartridge is almost full. Stop the print head replacement, close the scanning unit/cover, and replace the maintenance cartridge first before attempting the print head replacement again.
• 1401Canon states the print head may be damaged. The documented remedy is a power cycle, then contacting a Canon service centre if the code returns.
