Dynamic Security / 'non-HP chip detected'
What it is
Firmware feature introduced 2016 that rejects cartridges without an HP chip. HP settled a class action in March 2025 with a commitment to make firmware updates optional. Units made before Dec 2016 can reportedly have it disabled via firmware; later units cannot.
Why it matters
Heavily searched, emotionally charged, legally live, and almost entirely covered by parties with a commercial stake. A neutral, accurate page is genuinely valuable.
