How to set up scanning on a printer

Add the scanner and save a test scan

   Prepare the scanner

   Turn on the scanner or multifunction printer and clear any displayed error. Connect it directly by USB or place it on the same network as the Windows PC.

   Add it in Windows

   Open Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Printers & scanners, then choose Add device. Let Windows finish searching and add the intended scanner or multifunction printer.

   Confirm the scanner function

   A multifunction device may appear primarily as a printer. Select it and confirm Scanner settings is available; otherwise obtain the current scanning package from the manufacturer's official model-support page.

   Open Windows Scan

   Search for Windows Scan and open it. If it is absent, install the Microsoft Scan app from the Microsoft Store rather than a third-party download page.

   Load one test document

   Place one page face down on the flatbed, or load it in the feeder exactly as the model's markings and manual show. Select the matching source in the Scan app.

   Scan and verify the saved file

   Choose the file type and save location, select Scan, then open the resulting file. Windows uses Pictures/Scans by default when no other folder is selected.
