Printhead
Printhead failed
Leads to repair-vs-replace, which is the highest-value decision page.
Likely causes and fixes
1. On Epson EcoTank and most consumer inkjets the printhead is integrated and not user-replaceable; if the nozzle check still shows gaps after Power Cleaning, a rest period, and Power Ink Flushing, Epson's own escalation path is to contact Epson rather than swap the head.
Caution: Power Cleaning uses a substantial amount of ink.
Run Power Cleaning from the printer's ink menu.

Run Power Ink Flushing, then recheck nozzles after another 12-hour rest.

2. On some HP inkjets the printhead carriage has no release latch, meaning the printhead cannot be swapped by the user or ordered as a routine part — a failed printhead there requires a paid HP repair or full replacement.
Power-cycle the printer: turn it off, unplug for 60 seconds, plug directly into a wall outlet, and power on.

Open the ink-cartridge access door and check whether the carriage has a printhead latch.

If a latch is present, order the correct printhead part number through HP and install it following HP's model-specific replacement guide.
